Reflecting on Learning

"Every child deserves a childhood” (Hope for Children. Title page, (n.d.).  My passionate hope for the future in early childhood education is that all children are afforded the opportunity to attend quality early childhood programs   Where the early education of our children is moved to the forefront and finally given one of the highest priorities. For everyone to start recognizing that every child and their family have something positive to contribute to the classroom environment and community."Embrace that everyone is different in their ways, but at the same time we are also all the same"(Derman-Sparks & Edwards, 2010)

Too many times, I have seen families have to leave programs because the cost is too high and they have to settle for fewer quality programs. Its time to start investing in our children's future so that they can develop and grow to be successful in life. Remove the obstacles and barriers that are standing in their way. Early childhood education is one of the best investments that our country can make."I believe that children are our future teach them well and let them lead the way."(Whitney Houston, Greatest Love of All)

Thank you, Dr. Pickens and colleague’s for being supportive during blogs and class discussions. I have learned so much over these last eight weeks. The information that we shared is valuable, and I plan to look back and use it in my future endeavors. I wish you the greatest success in all that you have planned for the future in early childhood education or whatever path you have chosen.   Hopefully, I will have a chance to dialogue with some of you who in the very near future in my last class.

  1. Hi Anita,

We must all come together to prevent this from happening to innocent children who deserve a quality education. No child or family member should be turned away because they simply cannot afford quality education. We must be a voice our concerns and advocate for these families who do not have a voice to address these concerns.

I agree Early childhood education is one of the best investments that our country can make."I believe that children are our future teach them well and let them lead the way."(Whitney Houston, Greatest Love of All). You couldn't have said it any better than that.

Good Luck to you Anita, it was great working with you in this class. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

    1. Hello Anita, enjoyed reading,

“The purpose of anti-bias education is to enable teachers to support all children’s families and to foster in each child fair and respectful treatment (Derman-Sparks & Edwards, 2010, p 116).” Some of the programs that they have for our children are costly. Parents do not have the monies nor the time to put into the many different programs that are available. Sometimes they are often told that their child does not belong are cannot participate in a program, a service, or activity that is designed for children without disabilities. I think of the “No Child Behind” quote and I think, how is this possible when it does not help all children still. “The very thing parents are seeking to access seems to no longer be available if their child is disabled or has a special need (Watson, 2010).” As educators, our responsibility is to include inclusion, activities, and events that will help the families that want their children to learn.

As educators, we talk about the many different inclusions that can help our children better understand other cultures not of their own. The considerations are challenging; access, participation, as well, benefits. “We cannot even begin to discuss inclusion if children cannot get through the door. So, access to any program, service or activity should be open and available to all children. that access is a right and is supported by federal laws that prohibit discrimi¬nation based on a disability (Watson, 2010).” All involved in our early learning children’s development and growth, has to be on board; participation, understanding of respect for peers and other people, confident to stand-up for themselves in a world where bad is there, but we can find good.

  2. Hi Anita,
You made some very valid points and I do believe Early Childhood Education should not be one of affordability but one of major importance without the price tag. The world needs awareness on the importance of a child's first learning and lessons and make it a priority. It has been a pleasure learning with you this semester. Wishing you all the best!

  3. It truly saddens me that cost is a reason that families cannot provide their children with an early childhood education. That should never be the reason that young learners do not get an imperative anti-bias education. Hopefully, in the near future there are more supports put in place for families, and more opportunities to provide an early childhood education where cost is not the determining factor. I strongly agree that all children, as you stated, should be afforded the same education.

Thank you for all of your thoughts throughout this course. I enjoyed reading and learning from your blog posts.

  4. HI Anita,
I can agree with your sentiments regarding invessting in education. I believe every child should have the priviledge of being apart of a great education system. The cost should also be reasonable so that children can get the best they need to grow and develop without being limited because of resources. I also would like to say thank you for your dedication and work in early childhood. May your journey be prosperous as you continue to help children learn and grow.
