Three ideals contained in the NAEYC and DEC codes of ethics that are meaningful to me

All the ideals and principles contained in the NAEYC and DEC codes of ethics are important me. The three that I have chosen to talk about are a small part of a big picture that I need to help me be successful in helping children reach their full potential.

1
I-1.5   To create and maintain safe and healthy settings that foster children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development and that respect their dignity and their contributions.
One of the most important things teachers can do to promote learning is to create classroom environments where students feel safe and secure. A healthy environment enables children to learn in powerful ways   Children need to be able to trust the people who are taking care of them in the absence of their parent. If they are not able to build trust that will not be able to learn or function. It is important to me to create that environment where children feel comfortable to be themselves. Children learn through their conversations, play activities and everyday routines whether they are at home, or school. The classroom environment plays a crucial part. The environment has to resemble the interests of the children who are in the class.  It is important for me to make sure that I am using developmentally appropriate practices.   A healthy environment enables children to learn in powerful ways. I want to have that all-inclusive classroom where all types of learners can feel valued and respected.

2.
I-2.2     To develop relationships of mutual trust and create partnerships with the families we serve.
It is very important for me to form a special relationship with the parents of the children who are in my care. In order for me to form that relationship, I must recognize that parents are the most important people in their children lives. Parents and teachers have the same goals of helping children learn and be successful. Parents have a wealth of knowledge about their children that they can share. They can tell me about their likes, dislikes, and interests. By working together with parents, we can enhance children’s learning and development. When parents show that they trust me with the responsibility of helping their children to grow and develop it creates a positive environment for the children.

3.
I-4.4    To work through education, research, and advocacy toward a society in which all young children have access to high-quality early care and education programs.
It is one of my professional goals to be an advocate for children and to make sure that they receive the quality care and education to make them successful in the future. I have to make sure that I am up to date with the issues that are affecting the early childhood field so I can be that voice to speak for the children whose voices may be silent. All children deserve the right to a high quality education no matter where they come from. We owe this to the children so that they can grow and develop to become productive members of society. In order for the children to be successful, we have to provide the foundation to help them on their way.
